Grand Canyon Caverns |
The Grand Canyon National Park Caverns are located 12 miles east on State Route 66 and is reached by a 21-story elevator descent. The Caverns features limestone walls formed in prehistoric times by an inland sea. Fossils and the bones of long-extinct animals have been found in the Caverns. Although Grand Canyon Caverns has been open to the public for over 74 years, each year new discoveries and deeper wonders are uncovered.
The temperature of the caverns is 56 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. 45-minute guided tours are offered. The caverns are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., June 15 through Labor Day and September 5th through the rest of the year. The Grand Canyon Caverns are closed on Christmas.
